Summary: Please note, this is currently a very rough draft. There will be spelling and grammatical errors afoot as well as flat out bad writing, info dumps, plot holes, flat out contradictions, and uneven characterization and pacing. (Content is also subject to constant change as I take an editing chainsaw to the story.)
Into the Wastes
“I don’t suppose you have anything beyond fairytales to work from.” Flame asked, as they looked out across the daytime desert. They’d dug a hole into a sand dune and we watching from a cooler shade.
“Just a hunch that we’ll find something at the middle of the desert.” May said, rolling out the cloth map. “Normally you’d find deserts against a mountain range, but these are in the middle of farmlands.
“What used to be farmlands.” Baron objected, he was sprawled in the deepest part of the cave and was panting in the heat. “There was a lake in the middle and then the lake dried up and everything around it turned to sand.”
“And you think the oracle is in the lake?” Flame asked skeptically.
“I think something is in the lake,” May said, looking out across the sands. “Otherwise it would still be a lake.”
“Whenever there’s a large are on the map marked ‘no one goes here, here be monsters’ that’s more or less a dead give away that whatever you’re looking for is going to be smack dab in the middle.”
