Black Chestnut Mini Whinnie – Part 1

Black Chestnut 09-24-2012 – Left

Okay, so this might be the only part… but since it’s a custom order I wanted to get feedback before I made a final post. (As always, click to embiggen!)

The reference photos were a little darker, so the new owner might want this little gal to turn out more black than brown, but I figured it was better to stop early and check. Going lighter is pretty darned near impossible with pastels. *pokes horse* I think she stopped at a nice color so we’ll see.

Anywho, onto the rest of the photos! 😀 (more…)

Friesian/Saddlebred Custom – Part V

Friesian 09-21-2012 Angle Right

The almost-last-round is upon us!

(Quick sum-up: Part I, Part II, and Part III, Part IV)

This time around we’ve got the second side of the horse, the hooves, and some detailing on the face to cover.

To some extent it’s ‘same song second verse’ as Part IV, but there is some new stuff (and tons of new photos) so read on dear reader! 😀

And as always, click the pics for a view MUCH larger than life-sized (remember this gal is only three inches high). (more…)

MH Copyright – Part I

MH Copyright 08-08-12 Left

How have I not done a post for this little guy yet? *eyes archives suspiciously*

Oh well, better late than never! 🙂

This little guy is the pewter MH Copyright sculpted by Mandi Hickman back in 2000/2001-ish. He might look a little rough around the edges (okay, maybe a LOT rough), but he was pretty far ahead of the curve for his time.

This little guy is being painted as a trade for an unpainted Morsel resin, who is currently hanging out on my shelf waiting to see if I can pull this off. *cracks knuckles* To war! (more…)

Friesian/Saddlebred Custom – Part IV

Friesian 08-27-12 Left Angle

And lo, the painting has begun! 😀

(Quick sum-up: Part I, Part II, and Part III)

As you can see this little gal has finally moved out of sculpting and into the painting arena (although I’m still doing minor touchups as I go to the prepwork.

As always, click to embiggen the photos and please keep in mind this little gal is only three inches high, so I don’t notice a lot of the problems until I’ve got these photos and see where I need to rework things.

(aka Yes, I do see the fuzz on her nose and I’m fixing it. ;))

Friesian/Saddlebred Custom – Part III

Friesian 07-06-12 Right

Sculpting, round three– fight! (Part I, Part II)

This time the only change is to the tail, which I tweaked so it lies flat against the ground– I hadn’t noticed that it was slightly off from flat until the customer pointed it out. That’ll teach me to not work on level surfaces! 😛

As always, click to embiggen and additional photos available upon request. (more…)

Friesian/Saddlebred Custom – Part II

Friesian 06-27-2012 Right

Time for round two! 🙂 (Missed out on Part I? Click here!)

I planned on posting this much earlier in the week, but I kept finding little things that needed tweaking and ended up procrastinating until tonight. I’m more or less happy with the results now, so it’s time to post some photos and get some feedback.

As always, click to get photos several times life-sized (if somewhat washed out). (more…)
