Slightly belated post for Six Sentence Sunday (was scheduled to post at 9am, but for some reason the autoposter hiccuped. :p)
From the never-ending WiP The Rabbit Who Ate the Moon. It’s soft science fiction and towards the end of the story. Rafiq and First are humans and Simple Grass and her pod are marine aliens (sort of a cross between a hippo and a turtle).
Firsts are still something new to the rest of human society. They're something slightly off the norm even at home and it makes them uncomfortable…
“I am– mm, forgetful. If I stay too long I forget too much.” She shrugged with a slow roll of shoulders that sent ripples dancing along the pool. “This is how we end.”
The first day he wakes up enough to focus on something other than the pain, he realizes the First has bound him to a raft. The river is wide and gentle, and except for the occasional drift as a pod member pushes by, it feels almost like flying. For a long while he simply watches as they float downriver.
Prequel to The Rabbit Who Ate the Moon– this won’t be in the final draft, just playing around with the story. 🙂
She spends the first month along the shore, following the pod as it works it’s way along the lake. She stays far enough inland to avoid their grasp, sometimes the younger members will lunge at the shore like orcas chasing seals. They know she isn’t one of the normal prey species, but the island chains are vast and she doubts they think of her as anything other than an unusual meal. (more…)
