Midnight Royal

Make: Breyer

Mold: Saddlebred (G2)
Color: Dark Purple-bay and Silver Tobiano
Gallery: Tobiano
Medium: Acrylics, Liquitex Dioxazine Purple
Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

This dashing gal was modeled after a real horse, as you can see by the reference photos, but was not a custom order. I was trying to learn the tobiano patterns and wanted to work from life as opposed to imagination and this looked like a fun one to try. (more…)

Blaustein

Blaustein

Make: Breyer
Scale: Stablemate
Mold: Saddlebred (G2)
Color: Quasi-stone in Blue, Black, and Silver
Medium: Acrylics, Liquitex Phthalocyanine Blue
Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

Blaustein means ‘Blue Stone’ in German and is one of my less creative names. This little gal was one of several models that I painted in a semi-faux-stone pattern (Philosophers Stone and Gold Digger were painted in a similar fashion). The color wasn’t meant to replicate any particular stone, but rather the painting methods normally used to do so. (more…)

D’Notte

D'Notte

Make: Breyer
Scale: Stablemate
Mold: Paso Fino (G2)
Color: Dark Blue and Silver
Medium: Silver Acrylic, Liquitex Phthalocyanine Blue
Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

D’Notte is a rather mangled version of the Italian ‘Of Night’ and she was named for the both the deep blue color and the way the silver stencils mimicked the moon.

Midnight Wish and Zodiac’s Curse were also inspired by the night sky, although I think Zodiac pulls it off the best of the three. (more…)

Thingamapony

Thingamapony

Once upon a time there was a Doodle Pony so purple that not even the most stubborn of Marthas could figure out a way to make her appear correctly in photographs… (goldarnit!)

Thingamapony might be wearing her Dioxazine Purple points with a rather malevolent glee, but she’s got enough spark to spice up any bookshelf herd. Heck, she’ll even come make your office look that much more awesome if you let her!

This little gal is a shaded metallic purple (amethyst) with slightly darker points (evil dioxazine purple) that mimic a bay horse. As you can see from the ‘with flash’ photos, this little gal has a lavender mane, not the dark purple that shows up in most of the photographs. The base body color seems to come through without problems so I’m not sure why the points insist on being so much bluer than they are in real life.

Her silver doodle pony markings are bolder than the norm, but that’s because this little gal wouldn’t settle for anything less. She’s here to make a splash and remind you that purple is the color of royalty for a reason. (That reason being tyrian purple was crazy expensive at the time, but don’t tell her that!)
