Cirrus Spissatus

Make: Breyer
Scale: Stablemate
Mold: Saddlebred (G2)
Color: Faux-Charcoal
Gallery: Solid Color
Medium: Acrylics and Pastels
Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

This little gal was a custom order along with Cirrus Uncinus. The color is supposed to be a faux-charcoal coloring (see reference pic), but it didn’t come out as well as I had hoped. (more…)

Meadowlands Lafayette

Make: Breyer
Scale: Stablemate
Mold: Saddlebred (G2)
Color: Rose Gray (Bay going Gray)
Gallery: Dilutes
Medium: Acrylics, Prismacolor Pencils
Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

This little gal is an example of why I offer full refunds on custom orders—I’m never quite sure what I can pull off and what’s outside of my range. In this case dapple gray was a step too far, but the person who ordered her kept her anyways. (Brave soul!) (more…)

Pooka’s Pride

Pookas Pride

Make: Breyer
Scale: Stablemate
Mold: Saddlebred (G2)
Color: Green-bay
Gallery: Solid Color
Medium: Acrylics
Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

This little gal was a very simple green-bay with white and gold ribbons. Named for a Celtic shape shifter she follows the same Irish theme as most of my green fantasy customs do. (Unlike Kelpies, Pookas are content to just scare their riders.) (more…)

Night Life (Breyer Stablemate)

Night Life

This little gal is one of my many Hackney Pony resculpts from the saddlebred mold. It was one of my favorite customizing options (after the draft crosses) because it made such a visual jump from the original model.

Night Life has had her face rescultped, her mane and tail removed, and a short bobbed tail and a braided mane added. The mane braids could use a lot of work and I’m still playing around with ways to make them more realistic.

The black chestnut is one of those colors I’ve played around with, but haven’t been able to pull off 100%. I haven’t had much luck finding high resolution reference photos so I’m never quite sure how red the points are supposed to be.

Still, quite a nice little model, although I think my techniques have gotten better (there’s one more custom hackney still waiting on my workbench).

Subtle Magic (Breyer Stablemate)

Subtle Magic

Magic was the result of another round of ‘every color on every mold’ and is the dark bay entry in said contest. It might not be the most creative way to expand my galleries, but it was good for getting over ‘painter’s block’ and using up bodies.

This is one of my later horses, as you can tell by the headshot and the in-focus photos (and the lack of chrome that tended to accompany the later dark bays). I’m not sure why her nose is brown instead of black, but I have a few of the dark bays that are painted this way, so I must have had a photo reference that matched– I rarely changed from the ‘default’ painting patterns unless I did.

I think she turned out rather well, but out of the dark bay’s I still think Magpie Summer is my favorite…

Color: Black Tobiano
Gallery: Tobiano
Medium: Acrylics
Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

This little gal has been resculpted into a light draft cross with his face thickened, feathering added, and mane and tail replaced. I wish I’d done the tail a little thicker, but overall she turned out pretty well. (more…)

Nightime Blues

Make: Breyer
Scale: Stablemate
Mold: Saddlebred (G2)
Color: Black Tobiano
Gallery: Tobiano
Medium: Acrylics
Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

This little guy has been resculpted into a part-Arabian with his face dished, neck straightened, mane and tail replaced, and boy bits added. As always, there is a lot I’d improve about him if I had another chance, but for where I was at the time he’s pretty darned good. (more…)
