Description

I decided I needed a butterfly in bright yellow as part of the kaleidoscope and was inspired to paint faux-flames by the paint’s name (Yellow Flame).

So this little bunsen burner has both orange and blue flames dancing along its wings! This was one of the few butterflies done entirely in acrylics and it was fun taking a break from the paint pens.

For some reason my camera will not capture the blue properly– it either dulls it out or over-emphasizes it. I guess this is one that just does better in person (oh well).

The butterflies are finished with Liquitex Gloss sealer, which is pretty durable, but they’re cut out for life on fridge and not the sink. You should be able to wipe them clean with a damp cloth, but please don’t leave them out in the rain.

These bits of flutter are roughly 3 inches long and about 2.5 inches high. They are most likely made of birch plywood, but only ArtMinds knows for sure.

The magnets on the back are generic flat magnets, but with a double row the butterflies have a nice bit of holding power. I tested them with three pieces of printer paper and they had no issues. The magnets are reinforced with wood glue and have been painted over and well sealed, so they won’t come loose.

Have a different color in mind for your garden-themed buddy? Just drop me a line and I can paint you the butterfly of your dreams! (Or nightmares… but that doesn’t seem wise.)

Medium: Liquitex White Gesso and Apple Barrel Acrylics (21472 Jack-o-lantern, 20503 White, 20223 Pool Blue, 21474 Yellow Flame, 20504 Black).
