Description
While I was painting the more realistic #5 I decided to play around with a similar color palette using the paint markers.
I started with a solid orange acrylic basecoat and then added a layer of red and orange dots. Over that, I did the black and then the white dots.
As you can see from the various pictures, the orange dots dried much closer to the acrylic color than I was expecting, so you can just barely see them now. (Woe!)
The butterflies are finished with Liquitex Gloss sealer, which is pretty durable, but they’re cut out for life on fridge and not the sink. You should be able to wipe them clean with a damp cloth, but please don’t leave them out in the rain.
These bits of flutter are roughly 3 inches long and about 2.5 inches high. They are most likely made of birch plywood, but only ArtMinds knows for sure.
The magnets on the back are generic flat magnets, but with a double row the butterflies have a nice bit of holding power. I tested them with three pieces of printer paper and they had no issues. The magnets are reinforced with wood glue and have been painted over and well sealed, so they won’t come loose.
Have a different color in mind for your garden-themed buddy? Just drop me a line and I can paint you the butterfly of your dreams! (Or nightmares… but that doesn’t seem wise.)
Medium: Liquitex White Gesso, Apple Barrel Acrylics (21471 Spiced Carrot, 20504 Black), and CraftSmart paint pens (Red, Orange, Black, White).
