Description

This listing is for a pre-made scale model panel and rail fence, painted white. This fence is in scale for most Breyer Mini Whinnies, Micro scale artists resins/pewters, and S scale model trains. (The horses, bases, and other props are not included.)

This is a one-off fence that I made while playing around with ideas for arena fencing. (You could, in theory, also use this as a short decorative fence at stablemate scale.) The panels are separate pieces, not just carved grooves, to make them look slightly more realistic– but that means the two end pieces are also more delicate.

This fence is designed to work with my 3×5 bases with Template A post holes. Technically, you can use a Template A fence in a Template D base (since a D is just two A’s stuck together) but it will look silly, as you can see. I have built jigs and other tools that allow me to make sure all fences are identical enough to be interchangeable.

I’ve shown the listing with several models so you can get a feel for the size. (The larger scale micros like Jewel normally work with the 1:48 scale fences.)

I have all of the Maggie Bennett Monthly Micros as well as most of the Breyer Mini Whinnies so if there is a specific model you would like to see the fence with, drop me a line and I’ll be happy to provide photos. I also do custom orders, if you are interested!

Actual Size

This fence is 5 inches long and 7/8 inches tall with 1 1/2 inches between the posts. It’s made from basswood using 3/32 inch square dowels for the posts, a 1/8 x 1/16 inch plank for the rail, and a 1/2 x 1/16 plank for the panels.

The top to the top rail is 7/8 high, the spacing between the rail and panel is 1/8, and the height to the bottom of the panel is 1/8.

Scale Size

In 1:64 scale (Breyer Mini Whinnies, Artist Resin Micro Minis, S scale) this would be 4 feet 8 inches high with 8 feet between the posts. The posts are 6 x 6, the rail is 8 x 4, and the panels are 8 feet long, 2 feet 8 inches tall, and 4 inches thick. The spacing between the rail and panels and the ground and the bottom of the panels is 8 inches.

In 1:54 scale (Maggie’s Micros) this would be 4 feet high with 6 feet 9 inches between the posts. The posts are 5 x 5, the rail is 8 x 4, and the panels are 8 feet long, 2 feet 8 inches tall, and 4 inches thick. The spacing between the rail and panels and the ground and the bottom of the panels is 7 inches.

In 1:32 scale (Breyer Stablemates, 1 gauge) this would be 2 feet 4 inches high with 4 feet between the posts. The posts are 3 x 3, the rail is 4 x 2, and the panels are 4 feet long, 1 foot 4 inches, and 2 inches thick. The spacing between the rail and panels and the ground and the bottom of the panels is 4 inches.

Construction & Details

The fence was sanded, assembled with wood glue, and painted with acrylics. It’s coated with matte varnish so you can wipe it with a damp cloth, but it can’t soak in water. The metal pegs are made from pins that have been cut and sanded, but are still quite poke-y because of the narrow diameter. It’s relatively sturdy, so it should hold up to basic wear and tear, but is not intended for children.

This fence is meant for adults (or young adults) who are using it for a display or Photo Show setup.

This fence will not stand on its own. It needs something you can stick the wire peg legs into, like floral foam or one of my awesome grass bases! If you would prefer the fence to come without posts, just add a note to the order letting me know.
