Description

This is a premade sand and grass base for model horses or other scale animals. The base is too small to be used for photo showing and is meant for display purposes only. (Note: The horses and fences shown are not included, this listing is for one sand and grass base.)

The base is 5 inches long and 3 inches wide, at the widest points. The sand-covered area is roughly 4.25 by 2 inches, the grass-covered area is 4.25 by 0.5, and the post holes are inset roughly a quarter inch. It is a good fit for most 1:32 scale models (Breyer Stablemate) and without the fence, it looks okay with Micro Minis (1:64), although the sand is slightly too large.

The wooden base is sanded, painted black and green, finished in a matte sealer, and then covered with model train sand and grass. The grass is attached in multiple layers with a mixture of water and Elmer’s wood glue, the sand is attached with a mix of water and Elmer’s white glue. The base has been through several tap and wind tests to make sure it’s pretty sturdy.

An additional bag of sand and grass is included in case the base is ever damaged. The terrain can be attached with a mixture of water and Elmer’s glue. Instructions on how to repair the base (and how it was made) can be found here.

This base is compatible with Template A fences.

The base will ship in a handmade cardstock box that can be used for storage. The box has two flaps that can be curled to hold the base securely and release with pull tabs.

Materials used: Artminds Wooden plaque, Green and Tan acrylic craft paints, Krylon matte sealer, wood glue, white glue, train grass (Woodland Scenics, T49 Blended Turf, Green).
