Description

I grew up reading old horse books like Black Tiger and Blaze Face and there’s something about a midwest pony that just yanks me back into those long lazy summers!

This leaping pony was painted to a dark dapple gray with a very minimal green background and historically inaccurate warpaint. The markings are based on things I found on the internet that looked aesthetically fun, but in theory mean that this pony has great eyesight, been in two battles, and has helped capture two other ponies.

This little guy was painted towards the end of my April 2021 crafting spree and is ready to charge onto the nearest magnet-friendly surface!

He’s been sealed in multiple layers of gloss sealer but he’s only water-resistant, not water-proof.

The original leaping horse was sculpted by me and then used to create a silicone caulk mold (check out the how-to’s!). I cast them using a Plaster of Paris and wood glue mixture and additional layers of wood glue to help harden the cast before painting. The background on this pony was broken off by hand, making him a one-of-a-kind!

While he’s sturdier than his all-plaster cousins, he’s Art and not Toy and will be heading for the graveyard if he takes a bad fall.

He’s roughly 3 inches long by 1.5 inches tall and has a strong ring neodymium magnets solidly attached to his back. While he’s got some nice holding power, he’s still meant as more of an art piece than a proper workhorse.

Medium: Liquitex White Gesso, DecoArt Americana Acrylics (DA095 Neutral Gray), FolkArt Acrylics (736 School Bus Yellow), and Apple Barrel Acrylics (21479 New Shamrock, 20258 Melted Chocolate, 21474 Yellow Flame, 20503 White, 20504 Black)
