Description

Sure, chestnut mares might have a bad rap, but don’t let the cute blue eyes fool you, this little palomino murder pony is out for blood!

And it’s easy to see why… she’s been tumbling around in the ‘to be painted’ her for years! I finally finished her up during the April 2021 spring cleaning jumpstart and she’s raring to get out of the art room and into the kitchen-y wilds.

This leaping pony was painted a dark palomino with pinked nose, blue eyes, and a minimal overo pattern. The red background she’s on is actually shaded, which you can see in some of the photos. Just one of those colors that I have a hard time capturing correctly on camera, alas.

She’s been sealed in multiple layers of matte (horse) and gloss (background) sealer but she’s only water-resistant, not water-proof.

The original leaping horse was sculpted by me and then used to create a silicone caulk mold (check out the how-to’s!). I cast her using a Plaster of Paris and wood glue mixture and additional layers of wood glue to help harden the cast before painting. The background on this pony was broken off by hand, making her a one-of-a-kind!

While she’s sturdier than her all-plaster cousins, she’s Art and not Toy and will be heading for the graveyard if she takes a bad fall.

She’s roughly 3 inches long by 1.5 inches tall and has a strong ring neodymium magnets solidly attached to her back. While she’s got some nice holding power, she’s still meant as more of an art piece than a proper workhorse.

Medium: Liquitex White Gesso, DecoArt Americana Acrylics (DA163 Honey Brown), FolkArt Acrylics (436 Engine Red, 2900 Cardinal Red), and Apple Barrel Acrylics (21469 Flag Red, 21483 China Blue, 20503 White, 20504 Black)
