This little guy was quite an adventure to paint. The Gold interacted very oddly with the yellow, giving it an almost burnished look. I was expecting the contrast between the two colors to be starker, but it worked out wonderfully.
The base coat was a shaded yellow that you can still catch a glimpse of in places. The gold was then added in with one of the larger stencil brushes, but in very thin, light layers. I think I ended up using two colors of gold here, but I’m not certain (I wish I’d kept better records for the paints I tossed. Arg.)
As you can tell, I got into a bit of a metallic trend in 2005. Combined with the heavy gloss, it did really give a kick to the fantasy models, but I feel now that it was a bit too repetitive. I’ll have to be more sparing with my color combination fixations in the future…
(On a side note: I always manage to get Pyrite and Florentine Flip backwards in my memory– not sure why the two names refuse to stay put, but it’s rather annoying!)Pyrite Prince
