Make: Breyer
Scale: Stablemate
Mold: Thoroughbred Mare (G1)
Color: Dark Gray Tobiano
Gallery: Tobiano
Medium: Acrylics
Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

This little gal was a custom I bought off eBay in a body lot that I planned on ‘updating’ and reselling. I’m not sure who the original artist was, but I’m hoping I can find my notes and see if there was a signature on her anywhere.

Original Paintjob

She was a simple repaint when I got her, so the first thing I did was remove her Breyer logo, smooth out a few rough seams, and carve out her ears. Thankfully I was lucky that all the body work ended up under the white markings or in an area where it was easy to color match.

Once the body work was done, I went back and added in the tobiano markings, a wider blaze, and realistic eyes and hooves. I don’t remember doing anything to the body color itself, so it ended up being a simple custom of a simple repaint.

Down Time

I was still learning how the tobiano pattern worked (as you can tell) and I do wish I’d used a real horse for a reference. The older models are harder and harder to come by and I always regret it when one of my customs doesn’t live up to the mold’s potential.

Ah well, live and learn!
