Cardinal Ornament #1

Cardinal Christmas Ornament 001 - Martha Bechtel - Front Tan

It’s time (once again!) for the United Christian Parish Art & Craft Fair, so instead of packing, I figured what better time to start filling out my missing art galleries! πŸ˜‚

This was the very first paint job on this sculpt and I had a fun time playing around with ideas. The red comes through overwhelmingly in photos and I’m not sure why– but it washes out all the shadings.

He looks much nicer in person!

The cardinal ornament was sculpted with a very loose background, so most of the paint jobs I’ve done on it have had the bird in focus and everything else in soft stylized washes.

Medium: Liquitex White Gesso, FolkArt Acrylics (2901 Apple Red, 2900 Cardinal Red), and Apple Barrel Acrylics (21470 Ripe Tomato, 21386 Arbor Green, 20530 Wedgewood Green, 20504 Black)
