1. Cop cars fly past them out of nowhere, weaving in and out of the interstate traffic at speeds (and volumes) that have her reaching for the radio.

2. The clock is impressively complex, but a Master’s eye can pick out that most of the gear work is decorative… and one small set of clockwork has nothing to do with the clock at all.

3. “The moon’s full tonight,” he said without looking up. “Better take extra silver with you.”

4. The last chance to turn back was hours ago and while they’re well prepared for the journey, he can’t help but shiver at the vast emptiness that stretches out on both sides of the road.

5. Magic is a seasonal thing, stronger in the winters when Life is at an ebb and weakest in the early summer months when all the world is growing.
