1. He’s got just enough of a spark to power electronics for ten seconds. It’s not enough for most things — not like his sisters’ magic — but it earns just enough to pay for the antivenom.
2. No matter what we try, impurities coat the maze of pipes swarming beneath our streets. Impossible to clean, they’ve trapped us in a constant race to build new lines before the old ones narrow into uselessness.
3. “I didn’t leave you,” he snapped. “I refused to chase after you. That isn’t the same thing! Why can’t you see that?”
4. Space is a vast emptiness, but wherever we go, we infest it with life and noise that echoes on long after we have passed.
5. Living next to a magic preserve is fun at first… until the unicorns eat all your roses.
