1. The display screens are enormous and still functional, filling the wall from floor to ceiling with an endless waterfall of video advertisements calling out to a population long dead.

2. No one’s sure who set up the Little Free Library tucked in between the oaks, but it’s always full of tiny handmade books that are the perfect length for a long lunch break.

3. “You shouldn’t be here,” said the dragon, whose words were sunlight on ice, soft spring winds, and rich soil. “This realm is not meant for mortal minds.”

4. Everyone was trying their best to drive safely, so the crash happens in slow motion, both cars sliding sedately into the intersection on the ice until they bump together with a gentle crunch.

5. Water, shelter, fire, food is the mantra the children learn from the moment they are old enough to sing. It’s at the core of everything they do, driving their lives through the days and seasons until they are old enough to teach children of their own. Water, shelter, fire, food.
