1. All the dishes are dirty again.

2. “Don’t you have forests on Earth?” the aliens asked, confused at the apparent terror of their new friends. “We thought humans loved trees!”

“Not ones that move!” The ambassador ducked behind the transport as one of the massive adults rustled its branches in a stern threat display as it strode by.

3. Faint clinks of coin against coin mar the silence of the courtroom as her companions buy their freedom. One-by-one, the party dwindles until only Farimore remains.

4. “You can’t be a Fate, you’re a guy!”

“I can be whatever I want to, thank you very much.” He put down his spindle and glared at the teenager who’d barged into his house. “I’m also good at being a very large, very unfriendly spider, so why don’t you try that again from the top.”

5. Planets are stepping stones across the vast ocean of space. It isn’t until we learn to let go of land and swim that we are truly at home in her seas.
