1. “Have you ever considered just– I dunno, embracing the urge to be an Evil Overlord? I mean, I know you don’t really mean any of it, but I think you’d be really good at it.”
2. The racing stripes were pointless vanity. Nothing would see the outside of the hull again for decades and by then they’d be worn away by micrometeorites, but he managed to keep a straight face when he insisted to the shipyard that having them would ‘make it go faster.’
3. Traffic slowed to a crawl. Then a stop. After half an hour folks started getting out and chatting, leaning up against the guardrails and speculating on what had happened.
4. The demon is an indescribable black mass of contradictions that overwhelms the senses. Motionless and writhing, sharp edges and slimy pools– it simultaneously smells of all things foul and the sharp tang of the void.
5. His life has been a series of mild failures, accidental bad luck, and minor acts of God. Never enough to make him give up– but just enough that everyone around him is suspicious he’s somehow doing it on purpose.
