1. It had been a lush forest once, but he’s not sure how he knows that. Running a careful finger along crystalized leaves, he fights to rationalize how something so obviously alien is familiar in a way he can’t put to words.

2. They are the embodiment of sins in an inhuman purity, a taunting lure of perfected evil that free will can never truly reach.

3. Her calendar is packed with meetings overlapped three layers deep and she doesn’t realize she closed the wrong pop-up reminder until someone pings her to ask why she’s running late.

4. “I’ve been wandering for years,” he said as they fell into step beside him. “You never cared I was lost until you needed me.”

5. The fabrication units build each other, from the smallest on up, until the assembly plant is up and running — turning out everything from forks to cars.
