Dusting Off the Writing Desk

“Don't tell me the moon is shining; show me the glint of light on broken glass.” Writing quote by Anton Chekhov

The year has gotten away from me again (as it’s wont to do) and we’re drawing in on the halfway mark. Thankfully I got most of my wishlist done in the New Year’s Resolution uber-productive span of Jan-Feb.

But everything else has fallen off a cliff.

Earlier this year I reformatted and uploaded all of the completed SSP books, both the yearly collections and the 31 Days of mini books. I also created PDF printables of the 31 Days books and took them off KDP so I could put them up on Etsy.

Oddly, they’ve been doing better on my Etsy shop. 🤔

Anywho.

I stopped writing Saturday Story Prompts back in March and it’s been a losing battle in getting them rolling again. Thankfully I seem to have made the writer’s block boulder wiggle a little, so I’m crossing my fingers that I’ll be back on track for July.

Then I just have to backdate a lot of missed Saturdays! 🤦‍♀️

Which bring me to an proto-2023 resolution: I’m going to stop doing weekly SSP posts at the end of 2022.

I’ve been doing them somewhat regularly since 2011 (there’ve been backdating flurries in the past) and traffic for them has never been that high– so I think it’s time for a break.

I’ve got plenty of them already done, so I’ll be firing up the Instagram account again and posting ‘hey come look!’ to see if I can get a little more interest in them.

Plus I want to focus on the collections, both normal ebooks and planner printables!

April’s Camp NaNoWriMo was a failure, but I’m stubbornly clinging to the idea that July will be better. Hubrus, thy name is ME! 😂

But it’s very hard for me to pass up a NaNo, so I picked a name (which is a line from a recent flash fic, For Glory) and a goal of 1k words a day– on anything at all.

I’ve been over-focused on work recently and I really want to get back into a daily writing and art habit. Right now I have a ‘my brain is dead I just want to play videogames and not think’ habit.

So… yeah, using the July NaNo to try and reboot a bit!

Considering my current words-per-day is sitting at zero, it’s going to be a challenge. 😅

The general plan is I will use July to finish all of the SSPs that remain in 2022 and everything I need to backdate to fill out Book I of the yearly collections. I’ll also work on trying to get a few more 31 Days of collections done.

I’ve been noodling away at Borrowed Wings for quite some time and I really want to take the November NaNo to actually write a publishable version. So July will be spent getting the worldbook together and writing outlines for each of the episodes.

November will just be putting prose to outline… hopefully. 🤞

TL;DR

I have plans. So. Many. Plans.

Here’s hoping that the coming month colors in a bunch of the checkboxes! 😁🎉
