1. It’s a short walk down to the corner store, but they can’t let him go alone. Each inch of the way is layered in a lifetime of memories and sometimes he gets lost in the past.
2. Moons are fickle things. With long erratic orbits and the penchant for do-si-do’ing amongst themselves, no one is ever sure who’ll be there to greet them in the dark.
3. In the end, he loses the HOA election by three votes. Potholes, two Canada geese, and a slightly wrong shade of green on the Saint Patrick’s Day banners bring an end to his Reign of Terror (although he’s pretty sure Mrs. Davis is the only one calling it that).
4. The further they rise, the more graceful the dragons become. It’s only when they reach the top of the mountain ridge that their delicate frills unfurl and they start to look like proper fairy tales.
5. “You’d sacrifice all of them just to live another hour?”
“If that’s what it takes to beat you, yes.”
