
1. I walk in my grandfather’s footsteps just as he walked in his grandfather’s. The path of our clan throughout the seasons is worn deep into the rocks and deeper into our shared soulsongs.
2. Even the simplest computers can think faster than we can. The most powerful can answer any question in heartbeats, but lack true understanding. The Oracles, those incredibly rare humans who can interface directly with them, are close to gods.
3. “I don’t want the truth, not this time.” He closed his eyes. “Tell me it’s going to be okay. Please.”
4. This isn’t his first war or his thousandth. Earth had been a violent place throughout the centuries– but this is the first time he’s taken up arms in space. The sounds of war die in the vacuum, but inside the fleet ships is the familiar ring of home.
5. She’s written him love letters from across time, a cascade of paper and ink that peppers his life with memories of her adventures past and future.
