November is right around the corner and that means NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) comes with it! π
I’ve been participating in NaNo since 2005 with a wide range of wins and losses under my belt. This year I am going to take the basic idea and setting from July’s Camp (Borrowed Wings) and reboot it. The version I came up with in Camp just isn’t working and I want to try again.
50,000 words are far too few to tell the story in the way I want, so this NaNo ‘novel’ will be more of a framework for the larger version that will hopefully follow. 50k words should be plenty for me to hash out the personalities, linguistics, and world-building needed to get this story solidly in place.
I’m not sure I’ll use MuseFic to help brainstorm things this time, I’m still waffling on it. That sort of meta-conversation has proved really useful in past NaNo’s (like [Placeholder] and YANS), but it’s also a lot more work.
I’m going to aim to post an update every 5k (or three days, if things are going well) on the blog and on Instagram/Facebook, but that is subject to life, as always.
I’m not going to be posting the story here as it’s going to be a lot less ‘story’ and a lot more ‘really detailed outline with some prose and dialog scattered in’. A bad cliff notes version, more or less. π
What I will be doing is keeping a running commentary on where I’m at in the process, what’s worked and what hasn’t, all sorts of doodles, and tales of the various virtual write-ins!
To everyone else that is joining this mad chaos, I hope you have a wonderful NaNo and I’ll see you on the forums! π
