Orion is a Safari Ltd. TOOB running pony painted to a flashy rainbow metallic explosion inspired by the Crab Nebula. He’s got has a sort of sunburst pattern that goes from red on the outside to blue at the center. He has realistic brown eyes, a rainbow tail, steel gray hooves, and a faux-bald face with a glossy finish.
(This is technically a mare mold, but I’m pretending he’s an undercover gelding. For reasons!)
I trimmed up his seams a little, but this pony was meant as a fun shelf piece and not a Live (or Photo) Show competitor. The color didn’t like my camera too much (so much sparkle!) but I think I did a decent job of capturing the pattern and the color variations.
The Running Pony mold has all the tipping issues and this little guy was no exception. His base is a bit of wood that has been painted green and then covered with train grass. The grass is attached with wood glue, so it’s pretty sturdy!
He’s roughly 2.5 inches wide and 2.5 inches high, so bigger than a Micromini or Mini Whinnie (1:64 scale) and smaller than a Stablemate (1:32)– so maybe 1:50ish?
This handsome fella was started in June 2021 as a sibling to Andromeda (I was playing around with the color ideas) and was finished up July 2021.
