And Then There Were Words…

Margaret Atwood Quote about Writing

Because what I need is more werewolf ‘verses… right? 😂

I’m headed to a new job towards the end of August that’s going to eat up a lot of my brainpower and I’m taking a little time to take stock of what projects I’m working on.

I know I made a plan to make no plans, but with as chaotic as this year has been (and will be) it would be nice to have something to color in the boxes for.

I’m breaking out the bullet journal again (I’ve been slowly working back up to it) and I’m ready to PLAN ALL THE THINGS! (sorta)

…and then start posting these updates weekly to keep myself honest.

I have a giant pile of Saturday Story Prompt drafts and ebook exclusives that should (in theory) last me through the end of 2022. However, I always end up writing at least two (if not three) new prompts for the weekly posts. I haven’t gotten any posts in the ‘scheduled and done’ bucket for the rest of 2021, so that’s my first order of business.

I also have half-done 31 Days of ebooks that need finishing and a giant herd of yearly collections in the wings. Not to mention finishing creating all the missing images (92) and taglines (167) for the old posts. So. Yeah.

I’m also working on a line of 31 Days of printable workbooks (as well as handmade books), which is why I started taking them out of KindleUnlimited/KDP exclusives a month or so ago.

So, lots to do here! This will probably be the thing I stick with for the rest of the year. It’s simple, easy to track progress on and I can do it in short bursts.

Borrowed Wings - eBook Cover - Twitter

At the moment, we’ve still got a week left with Camp NaNoWriMo but my attempt to work out a writing pattern for a new serial novel (Borrowed Wings) hasn’t had much success. Historically I’ve been all over the place when it comes to posting serials with any sort of regularity (or just finishing them), so I’m putting it back in the ‘needs more experimentation’ pile.

I only set an 8k goal and I’ll be hitting that, but there’s nothing really solid yet. I’m still working on the chapters and figuring out the tone and pacing. It’s not something I’m quitting, it’s just not something I’m ready to commit to publish consistently yet, so it’s getting stockpiled.

I am going to try and keep working on this, but it takes long stretches of time to focus on it and I’m not sure what the new job will bring…

I did a survey a bit ago to check in with the folks currently on the mailing list and see what sort of content they’d like to see (and how often). Right now I only post to the list when a new free 31 Days of ebooks is available… but turns out they’d like a little more coming down the pipe.

I had brainstormed some ideas for things folks might like (word count coloring pages, bullet journal spreads, etc.) so I want to try and see if I can do some alpha testing on those. My mailing list will be the beta testers and then someday the results will go up on Etsy and my Shop as printables.

I’m not quite ready to commit to sending something to the list twice a month, but it’s a goal I’d like to get to for 2022! 😁

Speaking of 2022 goals…

If I can work out some sort of reasonably solid schedule for posting materials to the mailing list and posting to Vella, I’d like to work out a schedule for posting weekly content to Patreon as well. Most likely this will be behind the scenes information on the story, the story, workbooks and other such fun things.

This won’t go live until much closer to the actual serial novel launch as I’ve got to work out what the tiers and tier rewards will be. I’d like to use the Patreon to fund some cool upgrades (professional maps, character sketches, etc.) but it needs to be a fair trade for folks.

I’m doing my research on what other Vella authors are doing (and the other serial platforms) and working out my Grand Plans.

That’s All She Wrote (for now)

I’m actually not working on anything else right now. I’ll most likely use NaNoWriMo proper to just expand on Borrowed Wings instead of starting something new. That’ll all depend on the job and what sort of hours it needs outside of work to keep things on an even keel.

And once I figure out how to do the whole ‘serial story’ gig… I have a whole bunch more worlds and stories to tell! 😁

ONWARDS!
