1. He’s never ridden a centipede before and he leans out the cabin window watching in fascination as the intricate machinery carries them forward over the rocks.

2. They scatter seeds wherever they go, leaving patchwork trails of weeds to terrorize the gardeners.

3. “They were going to save me from you. You!” He laughed and tossed aside the gun. “Can you imagine? I should have let them just to see what would happen.”

4. The whip is its own master now and rises like a snake against the horde.

5. Any part of her he might have still loved was burned away with those words and he stood, watching her pack, wondering in a distant detached way what had ever made him love her in the first place.
