Wooden Butterfly #11

Wooden Butterfly Magnet 011 - Blue Gold - Front - Martha Bechtel

This flashy fella was the last of the October 2018 butterfly flock (aka kaleidoscope). I love blue and gold so I figured I’d end the run on a high note!

(I’m quite proud of myself for only painting two blue ones so far– the model horses heavily lean cerulean. 😅)

He’s got a solid blue base with a more mottled blue and gold pattern. I was aiming for more of a ‘fun explosion of dots’ than a proper mimic of any real butterfly.

The butterflies are finished with Liquitex Gloss sealer, which is pretty durable, but they’re cut out for life on the fridge and not the sink. You should be able to wipe them clean with a damp cloth, but please don’t leave them out in the rain.

These bits of flutter are roughly 3 inches long and about 2.5 inches high. They are most likely made of birch plywood, but only ArtMinds knows for sure.

The square magnet on the back was recycled from whiteboards and has a decent amount of holding power. The magnet is attached with superglue and reinforced with wood glue. It’s been painted over and well sealed, so you don’t have to worry about it coming loose.

Have a different color in mind for your garden-themed buddy? Just drop me a line and I can paint you the butterfly of your dreams! (Or nightmares… but that doesn’t seem wise.)
