1. She watches multiple layers of translucent scales shift and glide over one another in a rippling rainbow of fractured light as the dragon moves.

2. The growing glow of the sunrise alarm clock and the soft notes of classical music lured him away from his nightmares.

3. Night winds slowly roll across the valley, heavy with echoes of midday heat still leaching from cooling rocks.

4. There are meat ships and mind ships going to Proxima Centauri, but he doesn’t have enough saved to bring his body this time.

5. “So when I turn this on, the bracelet will tell me when I’m in danger?” Death eyed the ever-changing digital design on the prototype with heavy skepticism.

“Of course!” gushed the inventor. “Its quantum field is precisely tuned to detect the slightest hint of danger with a fifty-yard radius, guaranteed to warn you in time to respond to a wide variety of grisly fates.”

“So you’ve just made my job a lot harder.” The bracelet’s light turned an ominous red.

“…What?”
