Of Writing Desks and Droughts

Douglas Adams Quote about Writing

It’s been a long pandemic… but the words are starting to flow again, so I’ve got a few things for the updates!

Saturday Story Prompts

I’ve made good progress on updating the posts in the Saturday Story Prompt archives. This includes reformatting, creating images, and whipping up short blurbs that describe the prompts.

There are over 500 posts in the archives and only 147 of them have been updated, so it’s a bit of a slow slog. I’m trying to get roughly 10 done a week which means a year from now I should be caught up. (Maybe.)

I haven’t been sharing them on social media as much, but I’m going to try and get in a good spot to resume that later this year.

Mailing List eBooks

So far I’m 1 for 5 on monthly free eBooks, but I’m hoping to change that soon! With luck, I’ll get the one for this month polished up and out before the deadline and more in the pipeline.

Collections for this year are tenatively:

  • May – Memory
  • June – Demons
  • July – Cars
  • August – Lost Love
  • September – Cats
  • October – Night
  • November – Fire
  • December – Silence

If I really get back up to speed, I’ll release the missing ones from earlier this year.

Serial Stories and Archive Updates

I’ve also been starting to work through the Story Archive and bring each of the universes and serial stories into the new format. This is a lot of work, so it’s incredibly slow going.

But on a happy note, there’s been some update since, err, last update! ?

I’ve finished the full rewrite of Too Old for Neverland and it’s up in chapter 1 of Thursday’s Child has Far To Go. I’m polishing the draft a bit more and then I’ll be looking for some beta readers.

I posted the first chapter of Dead Roses and Crossbows, which is my Beauty and the Beast parody(ish).

Camp NaNoWriMo didn’t go as well as I hoped, but I did get a few chapters done for The Happily Never After and I’m continuing to work on it.

I’m trying to figure out if I can get to a consistent update schedule, but for the moment I’m going to be hopping back and forth between the WiPs.

Socializing all the Socials

I have pretty much stopped posting on forums, social media, and in my online writing group. Which is… not good, but I just can’t bring myself to be social right now.

I’m trying to slowly get into the habit of chatting again, via more spontaneous art Instagram posts, but it’s a bit of a slog.

I’ve also taken to answering posts over on r/Writeresearch because it makes my Muses happy! ?

Camp NaNoWriMo – June

At the moment I’m not planning on participating in the second Camp session, but that might change. I have a hard time saying no to a NaNo even when I’m pretty sure it’s going to be a bust!

If I do participate it will be to work on existing projects. I’m trying very hard not to start anything new-new (either in art or writing) until I’m a bit better at finishing things.

Tiny Goals

I have already created the outline of the post for the next few Thursdays and I’m going to try and get into the habit of weekly updates. I need to make my art and writing a priority again, so setting up a check-in seems like a good plan.

So my goal is: post the next part of Bitter Mint and Chocolate

Onwards! ?
