Camp NaNoWriMo Approacheth!

Camp 2020 Writer Web Badge Square

It has been… one heck of a year so far.

But I’m trying to shake myself out of the odd fog I’ve been in since the pandemic started pandemic’ing, and what better way than focusing in on a Camp project!

Wordcount Goal

I’m not aiming for a full 50k this time, but a more leisurely 30k. Around 20-25k is where I tend to fizzle out during real NaNos, so I figured it’s not a bad target.

I’d like to end up with a serial story with 15 chapters, each about 2k. There should be lots of fluff, so the actual wordcount per finished chapter should be around 1k (which is my happy length).

Story Thus Far

I want to write something happy and fluffy and full of silly tropes. All wrapped up in the most formulaic paint-by-numbers plot that I can dream up.

I want to write the literary equivalent of comfort junk food!

So.

In a fantasy world, far, far away lived a girl who wasn’t particularly special (or so she thought!).

One day in the middle of her chores she is magic’d away to the castle of a Demon Lord.

There is some Dire Prophecy that says she is the key to ending his evil reign, but also that as long as she is near him he is invincible. What an unexpected twist!

She hangs out with him for a bit and it’s slow-burn TRUE LUV, y’all.

But then the band of heroes comes and kidnaps– err, rescues her from the evil castle. They need her to help them in their Epic Quest to kill the evil Demon Lord and end his horrible dominion.

Which they can’t do while she’s nearby, because Invincibility, yo.

Only she is totally not on board with the whole ‘killing my sorta-of-soulmate’ and betrays them at the last moment. dun-dun-DUN!

Did I mention one of the heroes was totally her boyfriend from home? Because he totally was. Was.

But TRUE LUV prevails and the evil Demon Lord turns out to be a good guy who was really secretly working to defeat this Other Evil Dude (which he didn’t even tell his One True Love because he didn’t want her to get involved).

So they team up with the heroes and defeat the real bad guy.

THE END.

Posting

Because I’ve split off my Writing posts, I’ll be able to post the chapters as I finish them without having to worry about burying everything else in the feed.

I’ll do weekly summary posts here and daily-ish updates to my social media accounts to keep folks up to date.

This is a one-shot story and I don’t anticipate writing anything else in this ‘verse. It’s just a tiny bit of escapism in an ever-darkening world.

So onwards, to the index cards and colored markers! ??
