1. In-person consultations were incredibly expensive. The resources required to clone him at the destination would eat up most of the new colony’s reserves… but he was worth every penny, as his older clones had proven time and time again.

2. Metal mesh runs through the windows, thin silver lines cutting the sky outside into tiny fragments of blue.

3. One of the pots had exploded during firing, turning the inside of the kiln into a rainbow of destruction and lost hours. For a moment they stood there, tired and defeated.

“Ah well, there’s nothing to be done for it, but to start again.” The potter began carefully sweeping the shards of pottery into the scraps bin and they reluctantly followed suit.

4. The massive tortoises were much faster than he expected and he scrambled to keep up as the red-shelled professor led them through the university’s botanical gardens.

5. Magic had no part in the road’s construction, she knows that, but looking down across the rolling hills it seems like nothing manmade could run so straight and endlessly.
