Live From the Chaotic Workbench

Live from the Workbench 09-20-2018

The blog has been mostly writing recently, but if you’ve been following my Instagram you would have been buried in art! ๐Ÿ˜€

Which means I’ve been starting a lot of stuff… and then not getting proper photos for blog posting. *hangs head in shame*

October 27th UCP Craft Fair!

UCP Craft Fair Setup 2017

A lot of what I’ve been doing recently has been getting ready for the craft fair at the end of October. This will be my first year trying to ‘properly’ do a booth, as opposed to throwing up a couple of magnet boards and calling it a day.

So I’ve been building display elements as well as painting (and casting) like crazy! I should have some tutorials coming out soonish for all the new bits and bobs I’ve come up with.

New OOMOO Molds

OOMOO 30 Moldmaking Lego Molds

As part of the ramp-up for the craft fair, I’ve been making a bunch of new OOMOO molds. Many of these are updated versions of the Fat Animal Magnets, but I also have some new sculpts that will be heading into the store after the craft fair is over.

I have another post in the works as well, on how to best make OOMOO 30 molds using Legos. I’ve figured out a few tips and tricks that I figure are worth sharing! ๐Ÿ™‚

Shetland and Shire

I have been having waaaay too much fun playing around with this ornament! ๐Ÿ™‚

This is a painted copy of the first version. I’ve tweaked the sculpture and cast a second one where the wreath is a little thicker so it’s easier to cast. I also have one where I have just the horses with the fence and background removed (but that’s still very much in progress).

These will be offered in raw cast, prepped, and painted versions… after the craft show. There will magnet versions (no hole) and ornament versions (with hole).

Reindeer Ornaments

I had a lot of these guys cast up, so I went ahead and painted a few more for the craft show. Just like the shetland and shire, raw, prepped, and painted version of these will be in the store in November as well! ๐Ÿ™‚

Custom Model Horses

Breyer Stablemate Blind Bag Unicorns Whole Box
Unicorns are shown in the order the bags were in the box… much less random than expected!

It’s been a long while since I’ve finished a custom model horse… but the craft fair accidentally advertised them for me, so now I need to bring a herd to the table!

I recently bought a box of the stablemate unicorns, so I have a bunch of bodies to play with. The new molds look like a lot of fun and I can never pass up a good fantasy body. So look for a few of those on Instagram in the near future.

I’ve also been making a bunch more props as well as finishing off a bunch of older horses. While I doubt I’ll get anything posted prior to show, there should be lots of eye candy in the Etsy store in November!

Fighting Through the Mess

Live From the Workbench 10-06-18

There have been a LOT of projects on the workbench since the last update. Custom fat pony portraits, dragon tiles, a bunch of wooden ornaments, model horses, new sculptures, resin casts, tiny bookmaking… it’s been chaos.

I am hoping to get back into a more consistent schedule in the future, but with the craft fair and then NaNoWriMo and the holiday season… it may be next year before things settle down again.

But the mess is a lot of fun and I’ve made a whole bunch of new things that didn’t exist before! So I’m not worried about the chaos right now, I’ll have time to worry later… for now, LET THERE BE ART! ๐Ÿ˜€
