1. Just over that ridge the world turns to sand.

2. Dreams of electronic static haunt her sleep and she spends those long moments suspended in a chaos that hints at purpose.

3. Politeness wins you no friends here, but true altruism will buy you a thousand armies.

4. “If you leave us, we will forget you,” the fairy hissed. “You will die in that mountain and it shall be like you never existed.” The weight of the lie curled dark and heavy around his wings.

5. It sleets on and off all night and by morning the neighborhood is encased in ice.
