1. “You’re as subtle as a technicolor zebra.”

2. Over the course of centuries the outside of the spaceship slowly wears away.

3. Anything she might have said was lost in the roar of the fire, but he liked to think that she’d forgiven him before they died.

4. Birds cluster underneath the overhang, trying to escape the storm.

5. The mesas cast long shadows across the flatlands during sunset and they’ve learned to avoid those pillars of twilight.
