1. Spectral wolves guard the edges of the forest, hard slices of moonlight given life and purpose.

2. “Views like this are hard to come by.” She looked out into the void, but there was no joy there, no terror… all she felt was a deep aching sadness.

3. The birds race across the sky in a living thunderhead, flashing blue and white as the flock banks and dives to avoid the hawks.

4. Space travel will never be safe, just safe enough, and only that elusive threshold is keeping us from the stars.

5. Lulls in the fighting give them time to burn the dead before they turn.
