1. Thousands of other civilizations have come and gone before the first humans arrive to join the war.

2. There’s a rhythm to morning drive-through he can get lost in, but the sudden arrival of a bus throws the kitchen into chaos.

3. Gold paint adorns the acolytes, intricate patterns that catch the light from the stained-glass windows and bring them one step closer to the divine.

4. “Pull and twist, don’t just pull.” Father tugs his own weed out of the ground as she watches carefully, frustrated but determined to get this right.

5. The quartz spiders are giant delicate things, crystalline legs flexing like blades of grass as they hunt silently along the cavern walls.
