Companions are not quite horses, set apart visually by deep blue eyes, pure white coats and hooves that chime in dulcet tones. This is the norm and no one in Valdemar really pays it much mind. Nor do the Companions themselves, born into the world as something a little more than horse, a little less than spirit.

Groveborn Companions, however, are thrust upon the world full-grown and childlike. Everything is new and fascinating to a Groveborn who’s just wandered into the world. So it wasn’t that much of a surprise for the King’s Own Herald to find his Companion playing in a corner, tapping out a melody with his hooves.
