Sometimes he misses the hunt. Misses the cold rush of adrenaline, the slow burn of lungs and legs; skimming the edge of death where life was nothing but fire and ice.In those quiet empty hours, he thrives on memories of blood seeping into thirsty soil, roaring snarls of Wraith, gutted, hamstrung, yet still crawling after him– dying knowing he had killed them. Knowing the life they’d torn free from the luxury of peace had been hardened, tempered, given edge and a mirrored hunger.

Now, here, pacing ancient halls filled with soft untempered souls, he feels alone.

But only sometimes.
