1. They seed the edges of the roads as they walk and within weeks the path is overcome with fast-growing vines.

2. Appointments are scarce this time of year and she finds herself stuck wedging it in between hot yoga and a tarot reading.

3. “There is no opting out. If you refuse to do this voluntarily, we’ll do it ourselves and bring you along. There’s nothing in the prophecy that says you have to survive the final battle, only that you have to be there.”

4. Flames lick up the walls and dance across the ceiling, burning away the dust and filth and leaving the surfaces beneath untouched.

5. I wanted to be a bricklayer when I was young. Watching them work, building house after house in my neighborhood, creating homes from mud… seemed almost magical.
