Pegasus has hundreds of names for colors of dirt. Chestnut, Rodney thought, still dazed from the explosion, No, umber?

Dirt. Supplied the small brown dog, helpfully licking John’s dusty nose. U haz a flavr. Iz Dirt.

Cinnamon? Because talking dogs seemed perfectly normal, debating color theory with them only slightly less so.

“John? Rodney?” He could just make out Teyla peering over the crater’s edge.

“Sepia!” Which explained everything, as far as Rodney was concerned.

Hours later the shock wore off, but the dog didn’t.

Rodney thought the official mission report was far less interesting than it should have been.
