It wasn’t that she didn’t miss Atlantis, she did, but she missed it the way she missed Grand Forks, and Pope, and Andrews. A wistful ache for things gone by, nothing more. The spiraling towers and alien seas were no more home than the asphalt and concrete airbases of her past assignments.
It wasn’t Atlantis keeping her from taking the post at Misawa, or McGuire, or accepting the promotion that would have put her behind a desk instead of a mechanic’s toolkit. It wasn’t the city that kept her circling the SGC with ‘just in case’ and ‘what if’, waiting for the day they needed her again.
Because the city was just a symbol; home was where your family was, and they’d scattered her family to the four winds. So she circled, because the gate was here, and John was here, and all he had to do was say the word and she’d have her home again.
