1. I wished on a star once and it came true… I’ve spent the rest of my life being careful never to wish again.

2. The horses that live in the valley are sacred, sworn to the service of the God Under the Mountain. When the boy-king’s armies march down from the mountains, he orders them slaughtered in the name of a new god and the rivers run with blood.

3. Her fingers dance over the keyboards, redefining friend and foe as the station’s AI slowly wakes from hibernation.

4. “I thought I’d forgotten you,” he reached out, but dropped his hand before he could touch her face. “I thought that you’d faded away, but you pop-up when I least expect it.”

5. The snow hisses as it strikes the ground.
