“Do you know what this is, Potter?” Snape said, holding the offending object at arm’s length, his eyes glittering dangerously.

Harry shot Hermione a pleading (and slightly panicked) look, but Snape cut her off with a curt flick of his wand. “I believe I was asking Potter, Ms. Granger.”

Snape refocused his glare on Harry. “This is your potion is it not?” He gestured at the still foaming cauldron and Harry nodded. “Then presumably you know what this is?” He dropped the rather terrified grey and white guinea pig on the desk in front of Harry.

“Um, it’s Neville? Sir?”
