It was such an un-Snape-like thing to do that at first no one said anything at all… At least not where he could catch them. Whispered conversations sprung up in every safely shadowed corner of the castle. Who was she? Why was she following him? Why was he letting her follow him? Was he cursed? Was she cursed? It couldn’t be natural, that much devotion to someone like him. The student body, friend and foe alike were positive something was up.

It took McGonagall to broach the silence.

“So, tell us Severus, where on earth did you find that cat?”
