He was never sure why he dreamt of her, ensconced in the magic-warped crags of distant world. That first brief glimpse of pallid features, the artful drape of fabric and feather and fur… and those eyes. They held immortality, eternity, and a sharp bright evil that called him home.

Their dreams were the nightmares of a thousand possibilities, a Lovecraftian epic retold each night. Ever expanding, ever embellished. They nursed each other through the years, sharing in that kindred darkness.

It wasn’t until he made the first horcrux, drenched in blood and tears and tasting of forever, that she smiled.
