“You did what?” But there wasn’t time to think and he was running, ignoring objections because Sirius always underestimated Snape, but Potter couldn’t, not now. He wondered, mind careening faster than footsteps, if Sirius wasn’t in the wrong house after all. Because this wasn’t a joke, he knew it as soon as the words left Black’s mouth his friend’s eyes glinting cold in the firelight. Then James was outside, running, wishing desperately for his broom, breath rasping in a throat dry with panic. He was too late, but not too late, and maybe this time they’d finally gone too far.
