There were so many things that could go wrong, that she spent every waking hour not thinking about them.

Some days were easier than others; when she was wrapped up in things that were going wrong and there wasn’t time to spare for things that hadn’t. But other days– long lazy days where nothing much happened at all…

Those days her thumb traced circles on the worry stone, tucked away in a pocket where no one could see, silent prayers to fend off future horrors.

She wore it away in slivers of faith, and smiled, and chatted, and didn’t think.
