If you listened to McKay you’d think the ATA gene was a goddamned switch, on or off, yes or no, but it wasn’t. It was a sliding scale with Amy was at the far end, hand on the pad, yelling at Atlantis to open the door because the water was rising and Trisha had that look that no one should ever have.

Steven pounded on the door while Amy focused, cursed, and the city ignored her. Then Ant grabbed her arm to pull her away and all of a sudden she was yelling louder, and they were never sure who thought of Matt, but Ant grabbed him with his other hand, yelled at him to “Push!”

“Push what?”, but the city could hear her now, hear them now. With Amy yelling, Matt and Ant pushing… and the door was opening.

Trisha came stumbling out in a wall of water, cursing and coughing, and they’d all let go as suddenly as they’d joined. Amy cursing in a language she didn’t know, Matt collapsing into Steven who’d been knocked sideways by the water, and Ant calling for backup, forgetting the radios were dead, while making sure that they really had been in time because Trisha looked two breaths from death and no one should ever have that look.
