1. “When I was little all I wanted was a Prince Charming,” she said with a sigh, putting down the sword. “I didn’t realize I was one.”

2. Home is where you bury your secrets.

3. The moon rose over an empty scalded forest, the remnants still smoldering from the dragon’s passage.

4. Two trees, one oak, one birch, grow entwined above her grave. On the bad days he comes out and sits in their shadow until his grief is lost in the dancing patterns of light.

5. “Who was that girl?”

“Who the blond?” She handed him his coffee with an annoyed snort.

“No the poodle.”
